"Until the advent of Sahaja Yoga, meditation was considered by most traditions as an individual process. Sages of the past would go away from society, isolating themselves in the nature to find the most suitable atmosphere for their spiritual ascent. Nowadays many schools of meditation or temples hold collective meditation classes, however, meditation is still an individual process in the sense that people cannot easily share their deep inner experience with others.
In Sahaja Yoga, for the first time, meditation has become a fully collective process, allowing each participant to feel a direct connection with other participants. Through the awakening of the Kundalini and the opening of the last chakra (energy center), even beginners can achieve their first level of Self-Realization or Yoga, which in Sanskrit means the Union. Therefore Sahaja Yogis feel the all pervading flow of ParamChaitanya (Divine energy / Primordial Energy) around them, but also the flow of this energy in other participants. Even emotional and mental conditions condition of other participants can be felt, and therefore meditation becomes a really collective process. Peace and joy are absorbed and share with a very similar intensity by most participants.
Amazingly, the greater the number of Sahaja Yogis meditating together, the stronger is the experience for each individual participant. This process can be compared with the lightening of several candles in a dark room. The more candles there are, the more light there is for everyone. Each Sahaja Yogi brings a certain level of light or certain level of energy when meditating, and the more people there are, the more energy there is. This positive energy is spread in the room and shared between all participants resulting in a stronger experience for everyone.
This sharing of energy is a very important key to spiritual growth and is the reason why, even after many years of practice, experienced Sahaja Yogis keep on attending collective meditation sessions. Weekly collective meditations help us to grow faster by allowing us to absorb more energy. It is a very precious moment that all Sahaja Yogis are looking forward too, as it enable us to forget all the tensions of everyday life and recharge our positive energy for several days. |

Another important point is that interacting with others help us to get a better understanding of ourselves, of our qualities and defects: why do we feel comfortable with this or that person and not with some others ? Is the problem within them or within us? By attending collective meditations and activity, Sahaja Yogis learn how to have compassion, tolerance, respect and love for each other's. Which is why people from all different religious, social, ethnic background can be found practicing Sahaja Yoga. Shri Mataji in Her words once expressed "Collectivity doesn't mean that we should all stick together. Collectivity means wherever you are, you are connected. When you are connected you love that person and are concerned about that person. The connecting line is of love and not of hatred. (
). You are yourself fully connected when you are absolutely detached and your Kundalini is dancing. You are alone and never alone. This oneness with the other gives you all the security and the joy you want. That's why the Kundalini awakening means collectivity. Unless and until you want pure collectivity in your being Kundalini won't rise". (Kundalini Puja, Germany, 1991) |
